Solid Mount Setup

This guide walks you through how to assemble, install, adjust, and inspect the Beta Block Solid Mount. The Solid Mount is designed to turn your Beta Block into a stable, removable home training setup when attached to an appropriate backing board.

Before installing, read through this guide completely and confirm that your backing board, mounting location, hardware, and training area are appropriate for your setup. Wall construction varies, and the user is responsible for choosing a secure mounting location and properly installing the Solid Mount before use.

The Solid Mount is for climbing training only. It is not climbing protection, fall protection, personal protective equipment, or life-safety equipment.

Choosing a Backing Board

Do not install the Beta Block Solid Mount directly into drywall. Drywall is not an appropriate mounting surface for the Solid Mount and should not be used as the only material supporting the mount.

The Solid Mount must be attached to a secure backing board that is properly installed to structural framing or another appropriate load-bearing structure. Wall construction varies, and it is the user’s responsibility to choose a safe mounting location, appropriate backing board, and proper installation method.

A common setup is a solid wood backing board, such as a 2x6 or thicker board, securely fastened into wall studs using appropriate structural fasteners. (not included) The backing board should be flat, solid, and installed so it does not flex, shift, or pull away from the wall during training.

A properly installed backing board helps spread the load across a larger surface area and gives the Solid Mount a stronger, more stable base for training. Before installing the Solid Mount, confirm that the backing board is secure, does not flex, and is appropriate for the type of training you plan to do.

Do not use the Solid Mount if the backing board, wall, fasteners, or mounting surface feels loose, weak, damaged, or unstable.

Assembling the Solid Mount

Before assembling the Solid Mount, remove all contents from the mount kit and confirm that all parts are included.

Each Solid Mount kit includes:

  • 1 - Solid Base
  • 1 - T-nut
  • 1 - Washer
  • 1 - Post
  • 5 - 2 1/2" screws
  • 1 - T20 bit

The Solid Base, T-nut, washer, and post are used to assemble the mount. The included screws and T20 bit are used later to attach the assembled mount to an appropriate backing board.

To assemble the Solid Mount, place the T-nut into the back side of the Solid Base. Place the large washer into the recessed area on the front of the Solid Base. Insert the post from the front of the Solid Base, through the washer, and thread it into the T-nut.

Place a Beta Block onto the Solid Mount to help adjust the fit. You can purchase a Beta Block here: (Beta Block). A 14mm socket or wrench is required for adjustment and is not included. The spacer is slightly oversized and will compress as you tighten the post.

Tighten the post until the Beta Block feels secure on the mount. Then loosen the post slightly until the Beta Block can move smoothly on and off without binding or wobbling. This adjustment controls the feel and tightness of the Beta Block on the Solid Mount.

The Beta Block should feel secure, but it should not be difficult to install, rotate, flip, or remove.

Before installing the Solid Mount on your backing board, confirm that the post is centered, tight, and does not wobble.

Installing the Solid Mount on a Backing Board

Each Solid Mount kit includes five 2 1/2" screws and one T20 bit. Four screws are used to install the Solid Mount and one is extra.

Partially thread the four screws into the mount holes. This will make it easier to keep the screws aligned for leveling and mounting.

Start by partially driving one screw into the backing board. Do not fully tighten it yet. Level the Solid Mount, then partially drive the screw on the opposite side to hold the mount in position.

Once the mount is level and all the screws are partially threaded drive the remaining screws into the backing board. Tighten the screws in a "X" pattern, moving from one side to the opposite side, until all four screws are seated evenly.

Do not overtighten. The Solid Mount should sit flat and secure against the backing board, but the screws should not crush the mount, strip the backing board, or deform the screw holes.

After installation, check that the Solid Mount does not shift, flex, or pull away from the backing board. Confirm that the post is tight and that the mount feels secure before installing a Beta Block.

Installing a Beta Block on a Solid Mount

Hold the Beta Block at a slight angle when sliding it onto the post. This helps align the post with the clover opening. Once aligned, slide the Beta Block all the way down to the base of the mount and pull down gently to fully seat the Beta Block.

The Beta Block should feel secure on the mount while still being easy to install, remove, rotate, and flip when changing edges. If it feels too tight, too loose, or does not seat cleanly, stop and check the mount adjustment before use. (See the "Assembling the Solid Mount" section above)

Before training, confirm the Block is fully seated, the Solid Mount is securely attached to the backing board, and the post is tight.

Removing a Beta Block from a Solid Mount

Hold the Beta Block from the bottom edge. Pull the Bloc toward you against the post and slide up while applying light pressure.

The Beta Block should come off smoothly when it is aligned correctly. Do not twist, pry, or force it off the mount. If the Beta Block feels too tight or difficult to remove, stop and check the mount adjustment before use.

Safety and Use Responsibility

Before Each Use

  • Confirm the Beta Block is fully seated on the Solid Mount before training.
  • Confirm the Solid Mount is securely attached to the backing board.
  • Confirm the post is tight and does not wobble.
  • Confirm the backing board is secure, does not flex, and is properly attached to structural framing or another appropriate load-bearing structure.
  • Do not use cracked, loose, damaged, worn, deformed, improperly installed, or unstable equipment.
  • Do not shock load the Beta Block System.
  • Stop use immediately if anything shifts, loosens, cracks, creaks, flexes, or feels unsafe.

Important Warnings

Beta Blocks and Solid Mounts are climbing training tools only. They are not climbing protection, fall protection, personal protective equipment, or life-safety equipment.

Do not fall onto, jump onto, shock load, or use the Beta Block System to catch dynamic falls. Do not use damaged equipment, improperly installed mounts, unsafe backing boards, unsafe anchors, or unstable setups.

Do not install the Solid Mount directly into drywall. The Solid Mount must be attached to an appropriate backing board that is securely installed to structural framing or another appropriate load-bearing structure.

Smaller edges and fewer-finger positions can create significantly higher stress on the fingers, hands, elbows, and shoulders. Train within your ability and stop if you feel pain, sharp discomfort, or abnormal strain.

Children should not use the Beta Block System without adult supervision.

User Responsibility

Climbing training carries inherent risk. By using the Beta Block System, you understand and accept the risks involved with strength training, finger training, hanging, pulling, mounted setups, installation, and use of third-party accessories.

You are responsible for your setup, installation, mounting location, backing board selection, hardware selection, accessory selection, training intensity, edge selection, finger position, and safe use of the product.

Wall construction, stud condition, backing board quality, fastener selection, accessory quality, and training conditions vary. The user is responsible for confirming that all mounting surfaces, anchors, hardware, backing boards, and accessories are appropriate for the intended use before training.
